Phase 1 Construction Complete

HOORAY! Phase 1 of our build is complete! There was still some elements of our tiny house that need attending to but the windows and roof will be going on next. We are still awaiting delivery of our metal roof and our windows, skylights, and door. In the meantime, metal sheathing is being installed to all four corners of the house to prevent racking for the next phase our the build.

We’ve got more pictures of our tiny house progress to share.

Here are more aerial views of the inside loft and roof areas. We are so happy with the way it is looking. Looks like phase 1 of our construction will be finished today. Next up will be the windows, skylights, door and roofing. We will have pictures of the completed phase 1 build soon!

Another house update!

The roof has been framed and our house wrap is on. We are so excited that phase 1 of the build is almost complete.

We opted to forgo the sheathing on our house to reduce the weight on the trailer. Photos below of the progress.

Framing the Loft

More progress is being made on our little house. The loft floor framing has been built for both the bedroom and storage lofts. The door framing is in with a recess to allow for the fold down porch.

Everything is coming along like planned so far. We picked out the windows/skylights we wanted last week and are waiting on pricing as well as an estimated delivery time for them. It’s supposed to take a 2-3 weeks but we can’t be sure till we hear back from Lowes.

Our walls are up!!

Our wee little home is coming along. The wall framing is up and it almost looks like a house now. I can see all the areas where our door and windows will go. It’s so exciting to see this come together after 6 months of planning. Even though it’s in the early stages of framing and there is a lot more to be done, completion of our home feels like it’s within reach.

Building the Trailer Bed

After we received our final build plans from Niall Burke of Humble Homes, it was time to start the next phase of our tiny house build.

Initially, Jay wanted to build the entire tiny house from the trailer up, with the assistance of contractors but it was more time and cost effective for us to go another route. Jay happened upon a company called Tortoise Shell Homes who could build the frame of our house in addition to the custom trailer bed specifically tailored to our needs. Bill Kastrinos of Tortoise Shell Homes worked with us to secure a timeline and expected delivery date of the tiny house frame.

In the end we decided to let the experts start our tiny house. We trust the reputation and skill of Bill and his team at Tortoise Shell Homes and think that they will start our tiny house off on the right foot. Bill will be updating us with photos as the build progresses.
